Notes and instructions on the Canon iR5180 color printer / copier:

Canon iR5180: master kept in COMPUTER
6/28/07pi email. We will be setting up account codes eventually. For copying,
note the window with the word "Black" above the "Ready to copy" message.
Touch the drop down arrow for the color choices. For color copying use the
auto-color so we won't be charged for color on black ink pages.

For those who can follow these instructions for installing the color printer
driver on their computer, have at it. For those who can't, let Vicki know
and she'll arrange for help.

Start | Control Panel | Printers... | highlight the iR5000 printer (whatever
name it has) | l.click Delete this printer in left margin | Add printer |
Local printer and select the port with 192.168.1.27 address in it | have
disk | browse to p:\is\print_dr\CanonIR5180\PCL.\pcl5.\ and highlight the
only file that appears | Ok | from the list of drivers use only
Canon IR C5180-H1 PCL5c | and continue on to finish the installation -
print a test page. On my workstation I named this the iR5180.

We prefer you set preferences in Start | Control Panel | Printers... |
r.click the iR5180 | l.click Printing Prefernces | l.click Quality tab |
towards the bottom set Color Mode: to black and white | l.click Apply |
l.click each tab and then click OK to get out. If you don't set to black
and white, our cost of printing will climb excessively because even a hint
of color on a page incurs the color cost per copy. When you want to print
color, l.click properties in the File | Print window and select color on the
Quality tab.

For those doing heavy graphics, especially photos, the Post Script (PS)
driver gives better results. We test printed the resort report with PS.
I named the postscript version iR5180ps on my workstation. The postscript
preferences are a bit different - on the configuration tab l.click update
configuration, click every tab before Ok.

We have setup for scanning documents to f:\public\scans. On the copier
console push Send and select F Scans. This will be used for the Doc-Link
electronic file cabinet input of a/p invoices. For now it defaults to PDF,
for Doc-Link it will be changed to TIFF. You can use this feature right
now, just remember the name of the scanned image or find it by date and
time in f:\public\scans. We have also setup scan to email, and my email
was the first one configured - Send | psi on the copier console.

These Send functions are configured by browsing to the printer IP address.
For now let Vicki or me setup what you need. We'll need time to improve
their usefulness.

Alexis prints the Resort Report so she understands the settings and such for
that format and contents. Jennie helps with same.

There are two videos on f:\public\videos for this copier showing the Ikon
rep's training 7/10/07. The videos are about the actual equipment, they do
not discuss software.

Improvement Opportunities:
1. Copy to transparency is problematic - haven't figured out the settings for
the best quality.
2. Configure more trays for 11x17 for the bigger saddle-stitch projects like the
Resort Report.
